The Union Ministry of Earth Sciences on Monday (July 27, 2020) launched the mobile App 'Mausam' to propagate data from the India Meteorological Department which will have features like current weather, city forecast, and current temperature. The IMD already has another app called 'Meghdoot', however, it was meant for farmers only. It predicts weather information without technical jargon.
The application is available on Playstore and Appstore.
It will provide current weather information, including temperature, humidity, wind speed, and direction, for 200 cities. The information will be updated eight times a day. The Warnings feature shows alerts issued by the IMD, which will be updated twice daily. The forecast shows 24-hour and 7-day forecasts of weather conditions in 450 Indian cities.
“Meghdoot was meant only for farmers. This is for everyone. The now-cast feature of this app will tell you if there will be rain, thunder, or any other severe weather in your area based on data from the nearest meteorological station. Otherwise, there will be city-based information and forecasts and even radar products,” said M Rajeevan, secretary in the ministry of earth sciences.
This application has been developed jointly by ICRISAT’s Digital Agriculture and Youth team, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune, and IMD.
